What you will need

SCU-39

WIRES-X radio

FTM-100 FTM-400 FT2 FT3

Internet

PC

This way of connecting is reasonably straight forward and a cheaper option then buy 2 radios and a HRI-200. The radio in combination with the PC software act as a HRI-200 and allows you to change room on the PC and then talk into the radio.

ftm400

Portable Digital Node Station

WIRES-X
Using the WIRES-X Portable Digital Node function, you can operate a WIRES-X digital node station by directly connecting a Portable Digital Node capable C4FM digital transceiver with the PC. The HRI-200 Internet interface kit is not needed, and no fixed or dynamic global IP address is required.

There are some slightly different variations, which are covered below

Yaesu pages for FTM-100FTM-400FT2dFT3d

FTM-100 & FTM-400 = USB lead SCU-20

FT2D & FT3D = USB lead SCU-19 (this is not the lead the radio comes with)

Once you have installed the Driver for the USB lead – go ahead and install the WIRES-X software on your PC

Then put the radio in to the relevant mode

  • for PDN see PDN section
  • for HRI Node mode see that section

Then just plug in the USB lead to the radio – all being well the wires-x program on your PC will start communicating with the radio and you can change or join a room on the PC software

You are likely to get a “Windows Firewall” notice just click “Allow access”

PDN setup

PDF for PDN

The Radio (ft2d or ft3d) will need to be connected to the PC by the SCU-39 kit, or SCU-19, Without this it will not work. I have said a laptop above but this can be any PC, a laptop tethered (connected) to your mobile phone would make this a setup that you can walk around with or at least setup somewhere other then your QTH.

Don't forget when you start your radio hold down [back] & [X] then press the power button

Portable HRI mode

Slightly different from the PDN version for this your will need the same setup as the PDN except you will need a second C4FM radio. The radio that connects to the laptop functions like a HRI-200.

FT2D & FT3D

  • Press and hold the [X] key, [back] key and the POWER switch to turn ON – WIRES-X is displayed on the LCD screen

FTM-400 & FTM-100

  • Press and hold the [DX[ key [GM] key and the POWER switch to turn on the transceiver – WIRES-X logo is displayed on the LCD screen

To turn off any mode – switch radio off and repeat the above steps
